We carefully choose trees best suited for our area that can withstand the summer heat and winter cold. Fortunately, we are in a Mediterranean climate and can grow quite a wide variety of different types of fruit trees. We also offer fruit trees on different root stocks including dwarfing, to fit everyone’s growing and location needs.

Our dedicated staff have the knowledge to help you pick out the best trees for your area. They can also direct you to whatever else is needed for the soil, feeding, pruning and care of your tree.

Bareroot Fruit Trees

Bare root trees are field-grown trees that are dug up while dormant and not actively growing (November-December) for ease of shipping and storing without any soil around their roots. When the bare root trees arrive here in January, they are stored in sawdust bins and are available for sale bare root until they break dormancy, which is usually mid-March (depending on the weather). They are potted up at that point and no longer available as bare root stock

Why plant bare root?

  • Bare root trees cost an average of 10 percent less than trees in containers,
    (which can really add up when planting an orchard).
  • Ease of transporting; you can lay the trees flat and fit more in your vehicle.
  • Larger selection of varieties and rootstocks available.
  • Bare root trees establish themselves more quickly.
  • Planting while dormant eliminates transplant shock that can retard growth.

Planting Your Fruit Trees

The trend now is to grow smaller fruit trees.  Shorter fruit trees require less garden space and are easier to maintain and pick.  Smaller trees can be planted closer together, allowing room to grow more fruit trees!

No matter how short or how tall you want your fruit trees to be at maturity, choose different varieties that ripen at different times to extend your harvest season through fall.
